Alfa MiTo Viral Marketing

Today I saw the commercial for Alfa's latest car the Alfa Mito. About half a year ago the company held a competition about their new logo design. In my opinion the result is not what I expected (i think the winning logo looks more like "MTO") but the new commercial for the Mito are a real win :-)

Bomb exploded next to my office... :-(

I almost forgot to write about the event that happened last weeks Friday September 19th. On my way to the office I saw a construction site about 200 Meter away of my work. Then, 10 minutes later, already sitting on my desk I heard and FELT an enormous KA-BOOM...

An American 250kg World War II bomb exploded and injured 17 people.

Here is what USAtoday.com says about the event:
BERLIN (AP) — Police say a bomb from World War II has exploded after it was dug up during building work in western Germany. Fifteen people suffered light injuries or shock.

The 550-pound bomb detonated after being unearthed on Friday by a mechanical digger in Hattingen in the industrial Ruhr region.

Police say the machine's operator suffered light cuts to the hand. The explosion shattered windows in two nearby industrial buildings.

Unexploded bombs from World War II are still found frequently in Germany more than 60 years after the conflict's end.
Thank god nobody got killed. Hours later I realized how horrible it must have been 63 years ago when millions of people had to face bombardment night and days.

Vielen Dank ^^

Because "my English is so good that nobody can make me that after" I want to write in German now: Danke schön für die schönen und netten Geburtstagsglückwünsche.

PS: I hope you've realized the phrase "my English is so good that nobody can make me that after" makes only sense if you translate it literally into German ;)

Bye bye old life...

On Monday a new part of my life will start. Not only will my apprenticeship in the tax consulting office end, but I will also start my life as a student of 'International Business and Administration' at the University of Applied Sciences Dortmund.

As Markus already mentioned here, he expects life getting full of parties like on this picture:

As for me I rather think he, as an IT student, will have parties that look more like this:

Just kidding. I wish everyone of my old classmates a successful university career, especially the IT guys ;)

Canon unveils the Canon EOS 5D Mark II

Wow, haven't read nice specs like these before. Canon's latest update of their semi-professional portfolio has 21.1 Megapixel and LiveView Support aswell as the ability to make videos in 1080p.
The price is, well good things cost good money, 3000 € (4000$) including taxes. I think there's only one way to get one of these babies:

Dear Santa Claus...

A nice song: 张悬 - 宝贝

One of the most beautiful Chinese songs I got since I started learning Chinese is 宝贝 by Taiwanese singer 张悬. 翔瑀 sent it to me last year because she said it helps to get an idea about Chinese pronounciation. Thank you 翔瑀 for this song and all the other help. Really hope you are getting better soon :o)

LHC started yesterday

Yesterday the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) , world's largest and highest-energy particle accelerator complex, started at CERN in Switzerland. It intends to collide opposing beams of protons for research about the birth of the universe and is mankind's biggest cooperative research project with an estimated cost of 4 billion Euro (5.5 billion US Dollar).
Many people are fearing the risk to create a blackhole during the tests which would destroy the planet but we'll see what happens ;)

If you like some further information about it I recommend the Wikipedia article otherwise you can enjoy some pictures.

Apple - 'Let's Rock' event

Yesterday Apple showed its latest products on their "Let's Rock" event.
If you like you can now download yesterday's Apple event via their Keynote podcast feed.

Now you can watch Steve say, "BOOM!" without streaming interruptions. Be aware that this video is over 700 MB in size.

So what did they show?
They introduced new versions of the iPod touch, the nano and iTunes. Latter has reached now the version number 8 and features a music recommendation service whereas the iPod were slightly redesigned and got some minor updates like a speaker for the iPod touch and the return of the old form factor for the iPod nano.

Movietip: Joyeux Noël (Merry Christmas)

I know today is not Winter nor any special pre-Christmas day, but I saw the movie 'Joyeux Noël'(French for Merry Christmas) and I was really touched. As a fan of history I still didn't
know much about these events.
Inspired by a true story, which happened on Christmas Eve 1914 during World War I, in many different places along the front line. Various front-line soldiers of the conflict peacefully met each other in No Man's Land to share a precious pause in the carnage with a fleeting brotherhood. This film dramatizes one such section as the French, British and German sides partake in the unique event, even though they are aware that their superiors will not tolerate its occurrence. This movie has been nominated for an Oscar and should be seen by every one who still believes in humanity even during war time. Take a look here at the trailer:

I'm on the Mars

Nope I didn't took any drugs nor did I drink too much. In fact I am already on the Mars for more than 4 years and I am 100% serious.
This night I finally found the website and some pictures to prove it.
Back in the year 2002 there was a special advertising campaign by Lego and the Nasa. Yes you heard right, the real National Aeronautics and Space Administration. You were able to sign up for a disc that was sent to the Mars onboard of the two Mars exploration Rovers. My number back then was #2,270,949 of 3,551,645 which can be still proved here.

The location of these discs is Gusev Crater (Spirit) and Meridiani Planum (Opportunity). You can also see the disc on several pictures on the mission's Nasa website.

Unbelieveable, my name on this disc might last longer than everything else of me. The only problem I see, is if you will be able still be able to read DVDs in the future...
Oh yeah and of course all copyrights belong to the Nasa.

PS: Too bad I missed the Send your name to the Moon event for the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter... :-(

I can see clearly now...

by John Nash and covered 20 years later by Jimmy Cliff for the movie "Cool Runnings"

Decide on your own which one is better, if you like music like this ;)

Oh yeah and here are the lyrics:

I can see clearly now, the rain is gone,
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun-Shiny day.

I think I can make it now, the pain is gone
All of the bad feelings have disappeared
Here is the rainbow I’ve been prayin?for
It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun-Shiny day.

Look all around, there’s nothin?but blue skies
Look straight ahead, nothin?but blue skies

I can see clearly now, the rain is gone,
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun-Shiny day.

The story behind identifying an unknown song

I should start this with "Once upon a time..." but everyone knows the way I switch topics between conversations... OK, this time I try my best.

Today I was searching for some videos showing the lake Houhai (后海) in Beijing (北京) cause this is one of the spots you shouldn't miss in when you are going to Beijing. Last year I was at Houhai during Mid Autumn Festival (中秋节 / Zhong qiu jie) and with this year's Moon festival approaching on September 14, I remembered the beautiful scenery. So I searched at Youtube for some Houhai related videos but only found few results. One of these results was a video showing friends or a couple ice biking and heard a nice song. Unfortunately I didn't remember the Artist and the song title. But luckily for me I know a nice nifty tool called Tunatics which searches its online database for some beats and stuff like that.
Downloaded, installed, done. What an easy task ^^ This is one of the reasons why I like internet :-)

Oh by the way: The song was Island in the Sun by Weezer.

Google Browser Chrome says Hello

Yesterday Google unveiled its latest attempt to attack Microsoft. This time Google aims for the browser market where the competitors are big players like Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera and also Safari. Only time will show who will gain and lose some market shares.
As for me the new browser doesn't seem too different on the outside then my current Mozilla Firefox and in the end I think it will be the hardest part for Google to convince users their Google Chrome really is the next big thing...

Today is a start into a new life, hopefully ;)

From today I am student of the International Business department in the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts (DUASA). The decision wasn't really easy to leave the beloved IT behind but I think in the end it was the right decision. Oh I still enjoy working in IT business these days but hopefully I can use the already gained IT knowledge in conjunction with upcoming stuff of business administration, accounting, logistics and human ressource management. Wish me luck to succeed.
BTW: Today the first seminar was about solving conflicts. Seems like I should have had something like that way earlier ;)

Click Five - Long way to go

I got this song some time ago but today I was listening the first time to its lyrics...

Lyrics:

Was it you
That said that she could never get enough of me
But you confessed
That when we were alone you had to tell yourself to breathe
So maybe I
Should feel a little more like I've been living in a dream
Well I'm asking you should I stay

Even though I love you
(I can't help thinking about if I'd be better without you)
If we stay together
(it could get worse, then again, maybe it could get better)
Even though I love you
(I can't help thinking about if I'd be better without you)
Somethings wrong we both know
That you and I still got a long way to go

Why would you?
Wanna be with me instead of other guys
Oh make me feel
Like something special
God I think I've heard a million times
So would it be enough
To buy you everything and call you mine
'Cause it won't last long if I do

Even though I love you
(I can't help thinking about if I'd be better without you)
If we stay together
(it could get worse, then again, maybe it could get better)
Even though I love you
(I can't help thinking about if I'd be better without you)
Somethings wrong we both know
That you and I still got a long way to go

If I would leave tomorrow
You'd be the last to know

Even though I love you
If we stay together

Even though I love you
(I can't help thinking about if I'd be better without you)
If we stay together
(it could get worse, then again, maybe it could get better)
Even though I love you
(I can't help thinking about if I'd be better without you)
Somethings wrong we both know
That you and I still got a long..long way to go

Long way to go
Long way to go
Still got a long way to go
