upcoming Apple event

So there will be a new Apple event on January 27th. There are many rumours and discussions on the internet about the occasion because a variety of fanboys expect Apple to present their new tablet PC.
To be honest, as much as I like Apple for its innovations in the recent years, that much I hate all these fanboys out there. Let's just wait and see what they will present.

iPhone FW 3.1 blocks tethering. WTF?!

This week Apple released its version 3.1 of the iPhone firmware. Unfortnately I upgraded and realized that internet sharing via iPhone (tethering) has been blocked by now. Wow...
I have to admit I feel kinda pissed cause usually I wait with upgrades because I don't want to find myself missing a feature and here I am... Damn it... :-(

PS: T-Mobile Germany now offers a tethering option for clients who have signed a contract for only 20€/month more. Needless to say that I am waiting for some kind of hacked firmware because I don't see myself paying for something that has already been working fine and is no kind of real extra feature... Grrr...

New iPhone firmware 3.0 on the horizon?

In several tech websites like golem.de it can be read that there will be a
presentation of Apple's latest iPhone firmware.
Hopefully they finally include MMS functionality, tethering via Bluetooth and/or USB and MAYBE copy & paste...

We will know more on March 17th when Apple is holding the BIG presentation.

How to take a screenshot with your iPhone

Ever thought about how nice it would be to take screenshots of your iPhone?
Well there is a not very good documented way to do it.
Simply hold the home button (the button with the square printed on it) for a second and then the sleep/wake button (the button on the top). You will hear cam activation and et voila the screenshot is stored in your photo folder.

Hardreset your iPhone

Incase your iPhone's Mac OS should ever crash there is an easy way to hard reset it. Simply hold the home button (the button with the square printed on it) and the sleep/wake button (the button on the top) for about 5 seconds. After that you see the Apple screen appearing and your cellphone will reboot.

Caps Lock on your iPhone

In case you didn't know before, I will explain you how to find the Caps Lock option on your beloved iPhone.
Yeah maybe you are one of the guys who shout a lot in emails or simply prefer to write everything in capitalized letters. If so simply follow these coming steps.

First of all you should know that by default, the caps lock feature on your keyboard is deactivated.
To enable it, tap the Settings icon on the home screen, then tap the General button on the next screen. Here you tap now on the Keyboard button.
In the keyboard settings screen, you find the option Enable Caps Lock which has to be activated.

OK, we now enabled Caps Lock, but how do we use it?

Well if you start writing a shortmessage or an email you simply have to make a quick double tap on the shift button. If it turns blue, you made it and can shout now as much you want. If not, you have to try to double tap again.

That's all folks.

I <3 my new cellphone

These days I bought my new cellphone. It is an Apple iPhone 3G and I have to admit I simply love it. Never had a intuitive device like that and I am used to tech devices like the Nokia Communicator 9500 and the HTC S730.
Nonetheless there is another advantage for me: Instead forgetting either my cell or my iPod now I can forget both things at the same time ;-)

Apple - 'Let's Rock' event

Yesterday Apple showed its latest products on their "Let's Rock" event.
If you like you can now download yesterday's Apple event via their Keynote podcast feed.

Now you can watch Steve say, "BOOM!" without streaming interruptions. Be aware that this video is over 700 MB in size.

So what did they show?
They introduced new versions of the iPod touch, the nano and iTunes. Latter has reached now the version number 8 and features a music recommendation service whereas the iPod were slightly redesigned and got some minor updates like a speaker for the iPod touch and the return of the old form factor for the iPod nano.

:-(

What's an IT admin without a PC? Exactly: a cripple. Wow, this might be offensive in some ways but I guess you get the idea. Well for some days now my Notebook is acting crazy, my cellphone doesn't work flawless and I feel like I am back in the stoneage. Anyone wanting to give me a new Macbook Pro and an iPhone 3G? ;)
By the way: The upcoming new iPhone finally has all the features I expect when I hear the word smartphone. 3G support is nothing too special anymore in Germany where many people I know use UMTS/HSDPA for 2 years or more but GPS support could be a nice new feature. Especially if Google Maps works with the new iPhone. But unfortunately it still doesn't support Java :-(
Nevertheless I am already counting the days until my current cellphone provider contract will end beginning next year.
