Bomb exploded next to my office... :-(
I almost forgot to write about the event that happened last weeks Friday September 19th. On my way to the office I saw a construction site about 200 Meter away of my work. Then, 10 minutes later, already sitting on my desk I heard and FELT an enormous KA-BOOM...
An American 250kg World War II bomb exploded and injured 17 people.
Here is what USAtoday.com says about the event:
BERLIN (AP) — Police say a bomb from World War II has exploded after it was dug up during building work in western Germany. Fifteen people suffered light injuries or shock.Thank god nobody got killed. Hours later I realized how horrible it must have been 63 years ago when millions of people had to face bombardment night and days.
The 550-pound bomb detonated after being unearthed on Friday by a mechanical digger in Hattingen in the industrial Ruhr region.
Police say the machine's operator suffered light cuts to the hand. The explosion shattered windows in two nearby industrial buildings.
Unexploded bombs from World War II are still found frequently in Germany more than 60 years after the conflict's end.
