Maybe you've had a situation when you saw a nice video on YouTube but didn't know the name of the background song, you watched a music video or there was a cool remix you never heard before. A few months ago I found this useful tool called "Freeware Youtube to MP3 converter". How it works and what it does? You type in the YouTube link and after some minutes you get the audio file of it. Of course the audio quality is not that good but for some playing around it should work fine.
What's an IT admin without a PC? Exactly: a cripple. Wow, this might be offensive in some ways but I guess you get the idea. Well for some days now my Notebook is acting crazy, my cellphone doesn't work flawless and I feel like I am back in the stoneage. Anyone wanting to give me a new Macbook Pro and an iPhone 3G? ;) By the way: The upcoming new iPhone finally has all the features I expect when I hear the word smartphone. 3G support is nothing too special anymore in Germany where many people I know use UMTS/HSDPA for 2 years or more but GPS support could be a nice new feature. Especially if Google Maps works with the new iPhone. But unfortunately it still doesn't support Java :-( Nevertheless I am already counting the days until my current cellphone provider contract will end beginning next year.
During some research for a project I wanted to create a simple grafical overview of an office network but unfortunately I had no nifty Microsoft Visio installed on my PC. So I searched the web for a shiny AJAX version and finally I found Gliffy. If you just need it for 1 or 2 graphics then it does an excellent job and best of all: It is free for private use :) CNET featured it about 2 years ago and since then the program has improved to a level that doesn't look very beta-like anymore. I am really impressed what two guys with some time on their fingers did here... But enough chit chat, here's the link:
You like IT? Or you work in IT? Hmm, of maybe you even LIVE in IT? Well even if you can deny all these questions there is a funny British comedy show you might like called 'IT Crowd' on Channel 4 in UK. You have no British television? No problem, you know where you can find TV shows and stuff like that ;) Here comes a little glimpse:
And don't forget the new emergency number: Here's a little hint 0118 999 881 999 119 7253 ^^
See the headline? That's what today will all about. I hereby declare today for my "I post everything that might be interesting for tech fans or IT admins"-day ^^ Hope I can help you folks a bit with some solutions for everyday problems from the IT world.
Ouch... This is what I thought when I saw this picture of Patti's accident that happened this weekend. This nice Audi A4 was his car for quite some years now. On the way to his girlfriend's place in he had an accident on the highway resulting in a total loss of the car. The most annoying thing is that the accident only happened because there happened an accident 3 minutes earlier and they forgot to secure the site... Good in the end that both passengers weren't badly harmed. Luckily in modern cars things like airbags are nothing special anymore.
OK first thing first: I am extremely angry right now, so my anti-Asian IT feelings might last only for some hours ;-) Please don't feel offended if you are Asian or a web developer.
For some years now I have noticed that most Asian websites really suck. Either if it is sohu.com with its horrible user center or Sina.com. They all have one thing in common: They suck when it comes to multi browser support and to the use of modern techniques in an appropriate way.
Another example is the Konami ID website. What a pain in the ass... But there is also a really good competitor called netease (www.163.com). They seem to know how things should work in the net.
PS: After a day long downtime Konami ID finally works fine so my anger has gone to nowhere ;)
There is something going in Germany every two years. Unlike other countries worldwide the typical German is a bit afraid of being patriotic because he learnt from the beginning of his life that he has to be ashamed of the German historical past.
The wikipedia tells it that way when reporting about World Cup 2006:
Germany also experienced a sudden increase in patriotic spirit with flag waving, traditionally frowned upon by German society since World War II, whenever the German team played.
Well fortunately every two years there is one of this big sport event that lets Germans hang out their flag and sing the national anthem: The European Football Championship, right now occuring in Switzerland and Austria, and the World Cup. During this time it seems to be the only season where German like to show their flag and scream for their team. Of course I've also hung out my German flag ^^
Ok, ok, that's not me. B So today the German team will face Poland on its first group phase game. Maybe some of remember the World Cup 2006 when Germany won 1:0 against this team in a an amazing heart beat game.
And what was the Polish media reporting before the game...
OK, I think there are no other comments needed. I really hope the German teams gives an answer on the game field and kicks the Polish teams asses ;)
And because it was so nice last time, here is again the victory goal of 2006 against Poland
Dammit. Electrical Engineering really sucked :( And here are the bad news: I didn't pass. Fuck, fuck, fuck... Just because my teacher thought he would do me a favor if he gives me a 2 instead the way more fair 3 I had to write a better result than before... "Funny" side note neither was happy about that, not my teacher nor me. My last hope is now the oral exam. Wish me luck that everything works out as (newly) planned. But how to deal with bad news? Should you rather tell it to the people around you or try to play cool? I think both way have their risks but I think you should rather be honest to your girlfriend and friends than doing sweettalk...
Yeah there might be bigger news but it is summer and "real" IT news have become rare these days. So, you probably noticed these days, that Google changed their favicon from to Wow, really completely different and amazing, NOT ;)
Hey in case you read this: Happy Birthday my little brother :o) Yeah today I saw my brother the first time since last Christmas and I was kinda shocked because he looks so much different from what he usually looked like some months ago. Enjoy your 20th birthday and hopefully all your wishes will come true. Anyway: Good luck for your future in Rostock ^^ BTW: We were really joking around like in old times and I think I didn't realize how much I missed spending time with him...
Maybe some of you have thought about studying abroad and maybe your destination of choice is not Australia, USA or another typical western country but China. In case you are interested into studying in China, I found a ranking list from this year's January by the 21st Century Business Herald. Of course it is not THE indicator but maybe it helps a bit with your decision. If you seek for further information you can simply click on the university's name to get the website. Every university also has an English version so simply click through ;) I only linked the TOP50 but still: Have fun! BTW: The partner university of FH Dortmund, is the Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS / 广东外语外贸大学) .
