Germany got 5th place in Beijing 2008 Olympic Games

Congrats Germany. A way better result at the summer Olympics than 4 and 8 years before. Of course China wasn't beatable this time. Anyway: There are no 1.3 billion people living in Germany so compared with the 82 million Germans the result of a 5th place isn't bad.
In the end it is funny how countries like the USA (who suddenly count the total numbers of medals to win the first place) are changing the statistics...

Another interesting table was created by the blog abgeschmackt.blogspot.com cause they created the 'only true and fair population adjusted medal table'.

There is something about Germany

There is something going in Germany every two years. Unlike other countries worldwide the typical German is a bit afraid of being patriotic because he learnt from the beginning of his life that he has to be ashamed of the German historical past.

The wikipedia tells it that way when reporting about World Cup 2006:
Germany also experienced a sudden increase in patriotic spirit with flag waving, traditionally frowned upon by German society since World War II, whenever the German team played.
Well fortunately every two years there is one of this big sport event that lets Germans hang out their flag and sing the national anthem: The European Football Championship, right now occuring in Switzerland and Austria, and the World Cup.
During this time it seems to be the only season where German like to show their flag and scream for their team.
Of course I've also hung out my German flag ^^

Ok, ok, that's not me. B
So today the German team will face Poland on its first group phase game. Maybe some of remember the World Cup 2006 when Germany won 1:0 against this team in a an amazing heart beat game.

And what was the Polish media reporting before the game...

OK, I think there are no other comments needed. I really hope the German teams gives an answer on the game field and kicks the Polish teams asses ;)

And because it was so nice last time, here is again the victory goal of 2006 against Poland

Get Germanized ;)

'What the...??!?!' was my first thought when I saw this on the website of the Deutsche Welle, a broadcast and media station that provides German content on the net, on TV or by radio broadcast for Germans or those who are interested in the language.
This is a funny way to get instantly "Germanized" ;)

Skyscreamer @ Cranger Kirmes 2006

Almost a year ago Nicole, Patrick and I went to the Cranger Kirmes (Germany's second biggest fun fair/carnival) in Wanne Eickel. One of the big highlights was a joyride called sky screamer.
If you are curious, just take a look :)
