Assassin's Creed Sountrack

If you like last year's christmas gift Assassin's Creed and want to listen to some of the score themes you can download a small compilation directly from Ubisoft.
All you have to do is go to assassinscreed.us.ubi.com/soundtrack/index.php and type in the password 'Target'. Et Voila, now you can download 6 tracks of Jesper Kyd's brilliant soundtrack.

In loving memory...

How bad can 24 hours be? I really didn't expect getting such bad news within 10 hours...
On Sunday evening my Dad called me and told me his mum just died. After a moment of silence I realized that just for the first time in my life a close family member died. OK, more than 70 years are not as bad as when someone dies right in his childhood but even my great-grandma still lived at that moment with an age of 97.
Well, the next day when I was in university I got the next bad phonecall. This time My mum told me that my great-grandma died the day before...

Oh dear, after taking a big breath, I needed some time to realize all these sudden events. Within less than a day two family members were no longer...

Hmm, but I will keep them in my memories as the people who were good and pure eventhough they had sometimes problems showing that.

I'll miss you.

One professor... :-S

At my university there is a professor who hasn't been there since the start of the semester. She really seems to be ill and I mean seriously ill.
OK, nothing wrong with a professor being ill from time to time. But what if this professor holds one of the most important subjects? Don't forget you have to write an exam about all that at the end of the semester... Well we already missed 40% of the lectures. Let's hope she'll be fine soon and I will pass the exam without any complications.

Climbing

Two weeks ago some classmates and I were doing some indoor climbing at the Neoliet Climbing Hall located in Bochum. I really have to admit I didn't expect it to be so much fun and also so painful ;)
Fortunately a friend secured me very well during climbing which is not that easy cause I am such a fat bastard.
So what's the bottom line? For me, I decided to go more often climbing because it helps to clear your mind and it seems like the perfect way to do some sports even in the cold winter days.

'Vive la France' or 'Viva España'? :-(

These days I have to face a hard decision: Shall I take French or Spanish or maybe even Dutch as my second foreign language beside English on the University? :(

I did some research and created a little comparision:

Dutch Spanish French

Nederlands Español Français
Native speakers 23 million 322 - 400 million 60 - 130 million
Total speakers 27 million 400 - 500 million 160 - 500 million
Rank native sp. #40 #2 #9
Rank total sp. #48 #3 #3 - #7

Dutch doesn't sound like a very important language in the world of business and I might agree with that, but it is kinda easy to learn for Germans like me and one language more won't harm anybody. What you can't see in the chart above is that Spanish is about to become more and more important with French declining.

Oh here are some languages I already speak (more or less)

German English Chinese

Deutsch English 普通话
Native speakers 105 million 309 - 400 million 885 million
Total speakers 185 million 1.2 - 1.4 billion 990 million
Rank native sp. #10 #3 #1
Rank total sp. #10 #1 - #2 #1 - #2

I made my decision: I take Dutch and Spanish. But I am sure I will miss French... :(

At least I still remember the one and only sentence: "En France, il y a un magasin de chaussures" ;-)

size doesn't matter? - think again

I was really suprised when I saw these two videos earlier today. There are people out there who aren't just building RC planes. Nope, they create BIG RC planes.

First of all comes a F-14A Tomcat

Here's a little background information:
Built out of kevlar and carbon fiber, this miniature figher jet can reach speeds upwards of 280 M.P.H. The models use small jet turbines, functionally identical to those used in actual full-sized jets to achieve remarkable speeds and flying precision.

and a WWII plane.

Patrix - Casual gaming on a new level

During my time in China I often saw billboards advertising the game 'Patrix' and one year later I finally tried it. It is a free game but unfortunately it requires a Chinese ID to register and ultimatively play :-(
Once you have done so, you will realize pretty soon that the simple deathmatch shooter is really innovative and fun. As far as I know, 'Patrix' won an innovation award last year at the chinajoy gaming fair and I have to admit it really deserved that. I already posted a video last year, but these who don't remember, here we go again:

Reminds me a bit on Team Fortress 2...
Oh yeah, and here's the link to the website: patrix the game (Beware, Chinese websites look a bit different to western ones...)

The cornell method or "how to be a super nerd" ;)

First of all: No offense Markus, but you showed me the cornell note-taking method first.
This is a special way to write down all essential notes during a lesson in university. It really seems like there was someone who created a concept on how to use the paper space best.
The result:

Maybe this is effective but come on, who nerdy do you wanna be...?

Cleaning day

Today it was time to clean something up. Not the flat nor some clothes. I deleted about 97% of the contacts in my MSN contact list. I had about 216 contacts and in most cases I didn't even remember the real names...
So in future logging into mobile LIVE messenger should be done in no time with my cell :-)

Crossing fingers

Yesterday I got shocking news: My great-grandma is in hospital. Well usually I wouldn't worry a lot about that, but she is already 97 which means this is way more alarming.

I hope you get well soon...

UPDATE: Seems like everything is ok again. She already left the hospital is kicking ass again. Way you go ;-)

Already one year passed since China 2007

On this day one year ago, I arrived back home in Germany after my weeks in China.
There were many chances to go back there during this one year but I let them pass cause I am more focused on my new aims in life now.

In the end I still think it was the right decision to focus on the University studies, so let's hope I won't regret this move ^^

Weird signs...

When I was in China last year I saw this funny sign. The text says "盗窃光缆, 后果严重" which means something like "copper theft is a crime". Nothing special so far but I was really suprised when I saw that there are even t-shirts with this printing which shows again that western people like chinese writings no matter if they make any sense or not...
