Windows Server 2008 on a laptop

Yesterday evening I started a new project. Since my old server in the basement doesn't for about 4 months, I decided to install Windows Server 2008 on my "old" laptop. The tech specs doesn't sound so old though... 1.8 GHz CPU, 2 GB RAM, 250GB HDD etc...
Anyway, if it works as planned I will have an ultra-silent, energy saving server in the basement :-D
All I have to do so far is to download all the needed drivers in advance. I am wondering by the way if the integrated webcam will still work... ;-)

UPDATE: Everything worked just fine :-)
Only problem that occured at the beginning was the deactivated wirless lan setting. This feature has to be installed manually.

For further information regarding installation Windows Server 2008 as a desktop OS you can have a look here at.

Euro 2008 RAPortage

About 5 months ago there was the UEFA Championship in Switzerland and Austria where Germany lost unfortunately against Spain. These days I found a compilation of the German RAPortage videos which were shown in the German television during this time.
Enjoy ^^

How to increase Vista file transfer speed

Maybe I am sure you noticed that the file transfer rate in Vista isn't really faster than than in Windows XP. I would even say it is way slower...

Hmm, seems like Mircosoft noticed that. As a beta tester of the new Windows Server 2008 Microsoft released the two new hot fixes KB938194 and KB938979 on July 31 which are not open for the public yet. The latter uses some new algorithms to accelerate file transfer.

After some tests, I come to the conclusion that it really boosts the transfer rate by 50-80%.

So lets hope "normal" users don't have to wait till Windows Vista Service Pack ;-)

UPDATE***********************
Here comes the download link for the two updates. But Remember, it is still beta.
