LHC started yesterday

Yesterday the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) , world's largest and highest-energy particle accelerator complex, started at CERN in Switzerland. It intends to collide opposing beams of protons for research about the birth of the universe and is mankind's biggest cooperative research project with an estimated cost of 4 billion Euro (5.5 billion US Dollar).
Many people are fearing the risk to create a blackhole during the tests which would destroy the planet but we'll see what happens ;)

If you like some further information about it I recommend the Wikipedia article otherwise you can enjoy some pictures.
